Wink Xp Sp3

Been installing XP service pack 3 on my bot machines today. If you run that OS you should get the service pack for it. It may get your older systems able to run some of our newer bots without problems. Just saying....

Lol sweet... link? <I'm lazy> Is this going to be one of those service packs that you regret installing afterwards because they make you realize how obsolete your OS is?

It's in your windows update link in your OS. I always do the custom link.

Hmm... apparently it was an auto-update.. why hasn't mine updated? ..Anyway.. downloading the .iso to save downloading on my 3 slave computers and the other 5 computers in the house

Heh: EDIT: Hmm the [ code] commands are really screwy on this forum
"Microsoft has so far failed to provide any plausible solution to Windows XP customers who have seen their PCs crippled by the install of service pack three (SP3). In the meantime, forums throughout the internet are abuzz with possible workarounds and fixes, while rumours fly that suggest the sizeable blunder only affects some AMD-based machines. As we reported on Friday, within hours of XP SP3 being released as an automatic update hundreds of complaints flooded into Microsoft’s official Windows forum. Customers grumbled that their computers were suffering spontaneous reboots and system crashes after the service pack installs."

The latest cause reported by Microsoft is that a few OEMs (HP, can't remeber others) included a dll file they shouldn't have which triggers the reboot cycle.

Apparently with the modification Safe Mode doesn't work... anyway if you install the .iso onto a CD to install it it fixes any problem - I've installed it on 2 AMD boxes with no problems.

Ps. For those that have custom windows themes and lose them when you update to sp3. Run this: http://www.filedropper.com/uxthemepatcher :to fix it

Didn't really have much of an effect on performance for me.

But it did apply all the patches that i couldn't be bothered doing since SP2

When SP3 got leaked on the internet, i always thought it was trap by microsoft to try and catch you for illegal content.

I also Installed it and it failed because StyleXP didnt work with it..

It may work now? not sure

Lol, the only thing that's keeping me on XP is the bots here on CN. Otherwise I would be enjoying Ubuntu heaven.

*cough* too bad the bots arnt coded in Cpp.

Although if i remember correctly they have a(at least partial) replacement for .NET so you might be able to run it in WINE.

I never had much luck with Wine it always seemed as if there were some kind of issue.
Sorry commodore I didn't mean to hijack your thread and turn it into Linux talk. lol

EDIT: On second thought I guess I could just dual boot.
