| CN's Only Moderator | Thanks to the college board being stupid AP Computer Science uses the programming language known as java. I personally prefer C++ over Java but I am now forced to use Java. I have a few questions. 1) Any big difference between C++ and Java I should know? 2) What would be the best IDE for developing Java applications? 3) Anyone already taken Java AP, if so, any information you have about it? |

Reputation: 0 ![]() | there's not that big of a difference between the syntax. I don't know if there are any major differences in other parts because I know only a little C++ my favorite is the old version of JCreator (2.50 i think). I took it last year, if you can already program the class and the AP Test are ridiculously easy I got a 5 on it =D |

Also, I already have Eclipse since, that is what my school is using. Money isn't much of an issue for the IDE for me he he he... | |

Also, download this program known as DrJava. It's by far the SIMPLEST and EASIEST compiler that's built for students. All you do is type your single class file, hit compile, and then run - easy as that. Netbeans and Eclipse are good for a lot of project-type shit (stuff you'll work on for two weeks), but from what you'll probably be doing, I assume DrJava will be best. Here's a link: DrJava Lastly, if you want to purchase a book to help you understand or learn more, I suggest Head First Java (ISBN-10: 0596009208, ISBN-13: 978-0596009205) which runs $30 dollars at Amazon.com. It boasts over 720 pages all filled with easy, clear examples and instructions on what you are doing and what you may do wrong. It's very heavily illustrated as well so if you're a picture guy, it helps wonders. All I can say is, have fun and enjoy it. Java is a great, multi-platform language, and you'll never have to look at nodes and pointers again, lol. |
