The Mayan calendar works in cycles. When one ends the next one starts again and the end of a cycle just happens to be on 12-21-12. It doesn't mean the world is going to end, it just means that the cycle starts over again.

I'm really sick and tired of conspiracy theorists who don't do their research before spewing bullshit everywhere. The government's not going to do anything positive or negative to influence it, but there are some people who will act like Y2K again and go do stupid shit because "the world is over". Then when they're rotting in prison for stealing TV's, they'll be wondering "What the fuck happened?"

Besides, ever think the Mayans just got bored and went to go smoke corn or something?

The only way the world will end on that specific date is if scientists know for sure that some cosmic event like a huge asteroid is coming our way to smash us to pieces.

I don't really know why people think that date is special because I don't bother to listen to this type of stuff, but I'm sure it has to do with some nonsense religious/prophecy crap. All this sort of garbage stems from human arrogance. Arrogance that we are special and we need to be important in the grand scheme of things. And that somehow everything revolves around us.

We don't matter though. If our whole world, no our whole solar system, no our whole galaxy with its millions upon millions of similiar stars and planets just vanished it wouldn't matter one bit. That's because just as many stars and planets there are in our own galaxy there are that many and more galaxies within what we know of the whole universe. The sheer numbers of it all is so mind bendingly large that are small brains can't even begin to grasp it all.

The sooner we start looking at the bigger picture and move past our primitive beliefs/superstitions the better off we'll all be.

Still though, a lot of people do seem overly concerned about it and are making an incredible fuss. It's funny how they keep saying that "According to the bible the world will end in" or... some other prediction of sorts. The world was apparently supposed to have ended like.. 500 times already, and it still keeps spinning.
