^^ probably not required, but it would be very helpful if you did get one, in case you have homework where you have to graph or something...plus you can put games on them(easier on the ti-84's)

for geometry it's good for storing formulas to use during tests or whatever, but that's about all.

They are not required in my school, but I have one. They are very useful in geometry & algebra classes. For example, in geometry, with some postulates/theorems you need to get the answer, but you cannot use any rounded off numbers to get it. It is a lot harder and longer to do it with fractions, but if you have a graphing calculator you can use the 2nd->store feature to save a number. You can set that specific number to a character on the calculator, so you just type in that character in the formula, and it will replace it with that number. Kind of hard to explain lol, but they are quite useful

Ti-83+ is really all you need for any math class you'll take in high school, I finished calculus BC with it no problem

Are the preloaded applications any good? The TI-83+ seems fine for me once I start taking Pre-Cal/Algebra 2 next year but the TI-84 Silver looks pretty interesting since it includes a chemistry application which could help me if their applications are any good.

I have used the Ti-83+ in Alg 2 and Advance Math (Trig and Pre calc) And its really useful in both classes and for $25 you cant go wrong, its almost the same price as a basic scientific calculator. And even if your not in those classes the bigger screen is nice because you can see your steps and re trace your steps if you messed up.

Just get a ti-89, aka the best calculator. It has gotten me through algebra, geometry, calculus BC, 3D Calculus, differential equations, discrete math(sorta), linear algebra and a statistical analysis course. O yeah of course the SATs.

Use the coupon to get $25 off, then go to slickdeals. Click on the TI Graphing Calculator deal and there will be two links for both $25 rebates.
