So...I was messing with my zune and thought about looking up some software mods for it when I came across this.

I really like it cuz it's not a bright color and late at night that will hurt my eyes.

These directions are in the .zip file.

Follow these steps.
1. Create a new directory. (eg. ZSMDarkTheme )
2. Copy the following files to this new directory:
* contents of this .zip file
* ZuneShellResources.dll (from: C:\Program Files\Zune\)

Note: COPY the .dll, don't cut or just drag it to the new folder.

1. Stop the Zune Software (make sure that it is closed/shutdown, NOT minimized)
2. Make a backup copy of C:\Program Files\Zune\ZuneShellResources.dll and put it in a safe place.
3. To apply DarkTheme: double-click on the ZSMdarkTheme icon.
(Note: On some systems the icon may appear as "ZSMdarkTheme.bat")
4. To reset to the original theme: double-click on the ZSMoriginalTheme icon.
(Note: On some systems the icon may appear as "ZSMoriginalTheme.bat")
5. Copy the ZuneShellResources.dll from this new directory (eg. ZSMDarkTheme) to C:\Program Files\Zune
6. Start the Zune software
7. Click on Settings
8. Click on Software
9. Click on Display
10. Click on Organica
11. Click on OK

The files in this .zip file are the property of TC Perconti (aka WillysJeepMan, tcperconti@hotmail.com) and can be distributed freely provided that the zip file remains intact (no files are removed, added, or modified) and is never sold.

Now this makes me wonder if we can use something like this to make the theme however we wanted. If anyone can figure this out let me know.

Custom Background

First download this http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
This will be used to edit the .dll file.
Make sure the image you want to use is about the size to be a background and in PNG format. If it isn't PNG go into mspaint and resave it as xxxxx.png

Just follow these steps and images.
Run ResHacker
Go to File -> Open



This is where you choose the image you want as your background

Fill in the blanks exactly as you see!

There's more you can edit, I just focused on the backgrounds right now.

you can change the pink theme to other themes that are still white but they have like green and silver too

Hmm...go to that thread I linked to and there's a long discussion about it and other people are making their own themes. When I get more time I'll figure it out myself and post another tut(hopefully written by me) on how you can do this.

no, i am saying if you go to the display options within the zune program (as you mention when you change to organica) there are different ones to choose from besides the pink one

Ah, that. The organica display mode is actually a negative version of the original. Those other display modes are ones that haven't been altered and are the originals.

Yeah, I saw that and I also saw another post there about how to change your background.

I'll update the first post with it. It actually worked.

Old bump but....yeah, didn't find this until now.

The guys over at the ZuneScene forums made a simple .exe that easily changes the background of the Zune software without you having to poke around in the .dll

EDIT: Looks like the theme isn't hosted anymore and I don't see an option to import a new background picture with the auto dll patcher?
