Default Building a computer

Ok so i gave decided to build my own compter but i have ran into some problems. i will doing things such as gaming, and everyday tasks such as school work and web browsing

I know AMD and Intel both have great Products but which CPU do youi think would fit my needs the most.

I also need help picking a motherboard. i may or may not have an SLI configuration. if i do decide to do SLI it will be 2X 8800gt's. if i dont do SLI i will hae one 9800 GTX.

i will be using a mixture of water cooling and a couple small fans if that helps

thanxs!

well depending on the motherboard you get
then you will know which cpu manufacturer/socket you will need

the motherboard is the most important, if the part isnt compatible with the motherboard then its no use

I'd recommend Intel since it looks like you are going for a higher end computer

What is your budget? If its unlimited and you want the latest vid card, get a Nvida GTX 280, which just came out 2 days ago and reviews say that it is a pretty fast card but expensive - $650. As for the mobo, I have an Abit IP35 Pro and like it and haven't had a problem at all with it.

I recently built a new computer myself (last week)

for a processor i would recommend the e8400 3ghz 45nm 1333mhz fsb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037

Though if you're buying this processor and don't have a case I'd highly recommend the p180 or p182 case from antec, you can pretty much buy the p182 case for less than 100 bucks for this awesome combo deal.

Now for motherboard i bought and would also recommend the Gigabyte DS3L it works well and does exactly what i want, though i bought the cheaper version you may not even want the p35 chipset in which case i would recommend the x38 or x48 but those sure are costly.

and for video cards i'd get the 9800 gtx or the new HD 3850 AMD cards which are much cheaper and nearly the same speed if not alittle better than the 9800's

At this point intel is ahead of amd, the phenom isnt a match for the core 2 quad. Here is the current specs of the system I am currently building.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Memory/Ram: mushkin 2GB DDR2 1066
Hard Drive: Western Digital Rapter 150gb 10k RPM
GPU: 1x 8800gt
Power Supply: Antec Earthwatts 650w
Case: Raidmax Sagatta 2

If you are planning on going SLI you will probably want at least a Nvidia nForce 680i motherboard.

2x normal SATA HDDs in RAID0 performs better than a single raptor by a fairly large margin btw. Unless you plan on buying a second raptor and raiding it, 2 SATAs will def give more performance/storage.

For GPU wait until the 9800 GTX+ comes out if you can, as that is 55nm rather than 65nm and will cost ~$230. It has faster clock speeds. Debuts July 14th

OK i have decided to go Dual core. I think quad core would be a waste right now, as nothing would use all four cores (even crysis). so i have picked....

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Dual-Core Processor, 3.16 GHz, 6M L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB, LGA775 - Tray/OEM

and then i will overclock to around 4.2GHZ with water cooling.

yeah the e8400/8500 are amazing overclockers, definately go with that. also i think you should get a single 9800gtx because some intel motherboards don't have the best compatibility with sli, i mean some work really well, but sometimes it's not so hot.
