Default DIY : USB data transfer cable?

does anyone know if i can make myself one of those usb data cable by just connecting 2 regular usb cables together, with a male connector on both ends? if you own one of these cable, can you check if there's anything special on it like?

If you have 2-4 extra computers for testing, you know how to solder, and knowledge of electronics then go for it, otherwise suck it up and pay the 15 bucks. I just put anything that needs transfering onto a external hard drive then plug it into wherever I need my backups.

kfc469 has a little shameless behaviour in the past

It'll fry your computer because you are basically hooking you two power supplies together = short circuit. those you buy in stores have something that handles that.
