Default Unplugged fan on GFX card

I unplugged the fan to my graphics card because it's loud as hell, and added a case fan right under where the fan is. Is this safe? Like will my gfx card overheat? I have a GeForce 8800GT and I don't really play games at all, just graphic design. My case has really good ventilation. I'm kinda worried the gfx card will catch on fire or something and burn my house down :/

if your unsure, don't do it. Try using temp monitoring programs like Speedfan to compare the temps.

I highly doubt your house is going to burn down due to an overheating GFX, but anything is possible.

I'm sure you will be fine as long as you got a dedicated fan pulling the heat away from the card.

Like other people have mentioned first get a temp monitoring program to see how hot it is getting. I recommend Riva Tuner because it can adjust your stock fan's speed and well as a million other settings. If you're seeing temps in the 70's C then start to worry, if they're hitting the 80's then you better do something about it. Heat kills electronics so if you want things to last keep them as cool as possible.

Also the 8000 series cards generate alot of heat, already so unplugging the fan off probably wasnt the best idea.

You know you could just buy an aftermarket cooler for it if the stock setup is too loud.

If there's a fan on it...don't unplug it, even if you think that it's "too loud".
