Default CD/DVD Burner not Detected?

eMachines model ET1161-03

I've never used the burner that came with my computer before, and the first time I try, it's not detected by ANY burning software. I've already tried to contact gateway customer support, but they are just about retarded. They asked me if I "deleted" my burner. HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET? Anyways, does anyone know what I could do to fix this problem?

Do you have the drivers CD? If so, try installing that.

Everything came "preinstalled" which I did not like. So it didn't come with any discs.

Pre-installed or not, you should have received a recovery disc.

Just download ImgBurn.

I have a eMachines too and it's a piece of junk.
The optical drive doesn't work either.

Right click Computer and select Manage. Then open Device manager. If there are any notify icons next to the optical drive then you should reinstall the driver. eMachines support has drivers on their site.

That is exactly the problem. If you are planning on getting a pre-built computer, get an HP;otherwise build one.

Well there are two things that you can do, first you can delete it from the device manager(uninstall it) Then unplug it from the computer and plug it back in and see if the drivers install correctly.

If that doesn't work then the built in drivers got corrupted some how most likely because of a virus. In which case they only fix is it reinstall windows or upgrade windows to a new version or if it lets you do a repair install.

The only other thing it could be that it was installed as master or slave in which case you could switch to cable select(CS). You could also try buying a new cd drive but I really think reinstalling windows will fix the issue.
