Keep in mind he already said he can't spend any more than he already is. Its going to be a lot more expensive with these modifications suggested. Just trying to keep a budget in mind.

Well, out of what I suggested, I think Ryutso is considering the case ($10 more, extra fans will extend the life of the system) and the CPU fan (Not very expensive, will extend the life of the system).

Part of having a budget is making sure your investments are protected. Plus, with Gomez, the longer his comp lasts, the more money it makes him. He will get back the money he puts into this computer.

I cant tell if thats sarcasm or not but the build i posted is $60 cheaper, is just as fast if not faster than the q8200. It also has a better psu (very important for something running 24/7) and has more upgrade potential. You can knock off another $20 is you get a chepo case.

Since Ryutso said he wants to upgrade, an am3 setup is ideal for him. The six core amd's will be on am3 and the mobo i posted supports 32gb ram.

Lot's of interesting ideas here. I looked at the image that 1stStrike made and, while it's a little more expensive than what I currently have, it seems better.

I'm gonna lay out what I want to do and just have you guys offer suggestions:

-Computer used solely for Gomez, nothing else
-Computer on 24/7
-Run as many Gomez accounts as I can (You can only do this through VM's)
-Run as many instances in those VM's as I can

From what I understand, the more cores in the processor, the more VM's I can run. Most likely, CPU usage will be at 100% or close to it all day because of the amount of VM's I'm going to run. This computer will NOT be used for anything else other than Gomez, so any qualms about "Oh he needs to be able to do other stuff" are out the window.

No sarcasm, I was not replying to what you had posted. Power supplies only last a max of 5 years before you should consider replacing them anyways. The easiest way to determine the power supply you need would be to compare your spec's to one of the guides online. There are some great guides to help you determine what you need.

As for the computer if you want to max out the cpu all the time you have a very high chance of cutting its lifespan in half regardless of what brand you choose. If you want to go an uber cheap route then you go buy a $20 box fan to blow air into your computer. That's what I did when I wanted to over-clock (for kicks of course).

I figured that, but I did say "Most likely will be close to 100%". So I'm just trying to squeeze every ounce of power that I can.

This is what I've been getting at the whole time. Really, your primary focuses are processor and RAM. IMO you have made pretty good choices for that as long as you decide to get another 4GB down the road.

Now you just need to make sure it stays cool.

The stock intel fan is NOT NOT NOT ok for this. Get an aftermarket fan. If you want I'll look on the egg for a while and try to find you one for a good price.

It wouldn't hurt to get my case that came with all of those fans either.

If you buy a new heatsync don't forget the thermal paste! Just a friendly reminder.

Oh I'm definitely going to get more Ram down the road. I'm just keep building on this one system until I max it out completely and then start working towards a new system with all the money I make from Gomez monthly.

Just so I'm clear on the fan situation, bigger fan = more air movement but also requires more power right? So if I had a choice between a 90mm fan, a 120mm, fan, and a 180mm fan, the 180 would move more air but the 90 would use less power right?

Oh I'm definitely getting your case.

Arctic Silver is the best on the market. Everyone uses it. (Yay peer pressure!) Thermal compound is only needed if you replace the heatsync. Your heatsync already comes with some on it from the factory. Also keep in mind that if you get a new heatsync its vital that you don't use too much or too little thermal paste. Too much means you could fry your motherboard, too little means that your processor will overheat.

To elaborate on what steam said, Arctic Silver's website has pretty good instructions on how to apply the compound. Just download the .pdf for the quad

Arctic Silver Incorporated - Route to Product Instructions for Arctic Silver 5

When I first started building computers, I didn't think I needed to read stuff like that, but proper application really does have an impact on temps. Having "too much or too little" is almost as bad as not having any at all. It's all about thermal transfer...it's a science.

Also, if you decide to stick with the intel stock fan, I would suggest picking up some arctic silver anyway. If you apply it right you'll probably notice a decrease in temperature from the intel stock paste.

EDIT: Shit, I didn't see your post earlier

I've seen this as a "People who bought this also bought this" on a buncha of CPUs. Is thermal compound needed/Is Arctic Silver 5 the best?
There's a lot more to fans than just size. It's all about airflow (measured in CFM) and speed (measured in RPM). That will tell you how much air the fans are going to push and consequently how much it is going to cool. CFM if arguably the most important factor. I wouldn't worry too much about power draw on fans, even if you're trying to save electricity. Most fans use only 2-4 Watts and .15-.25 Amps.

Arctic Silver is the best. Just make sure you buy the thermal compound and not the epoxy/adhesive. Also, I've heard their Céramique product is even better than the regular Arctic Silver thermal compound, though I haven't tried it.

Okay, today Newegg has a Promo code for my processor and I have the money, so I'm going to buy the stuff today but a few more questions before I buy:

1. They have Corsair RAM, that's the same specs and everything (4GB 240 PIN DDR2 800), for a cheaper price than my G.SKILL. Should I give up my G.SKILL for Corsair?

2. MJ could you post the link to that case with all the fans again, as well as a link to a bigger internal fan and some Arctic Silver 5 so I can add it to my Newegg Wishlist and checkout? A lot of stuff on my Wishlist has a promo code today.

So Corsair is good RAM then. Okay I subbed it out.

Now I just need a good internal fan or MJ's case, and some Arctic Silver 5 compound on my list and I can check out.

In all seriousness, get a decent power supply. After you have returned your motherboard, cpu, and ram, trying to isolate the component causing your new computer to occasionally randomly lock up, you will regret not spending any extra $60 on a decent power supply.

I have had plenty of cheap power supplies that I never had any problems with, but all it takes is one to make you swear them off forever.

Do whatever is cheapest. My boyfriend bought fans from newegg when they were a buck a fan and still has a few spare fans just in case. Noisy as fuck but super cool.

I may do that later on down the road when I'm upgrading this box, but for right now, this power supply will do fine.

Just one. A little goes a long way. Here is the guide: Arctic Silver Incorporated - Route to Product Instructions for Arctic Silver 5

Keep in mind when you use it that it is made of silver, so it is toxic. I recommend using gloves, but my bf just moves quickly and double washes his hands after.

1. In general, Corsair RAM has awesome ratings. If it's cheaper and has good reviews go for it

2. Newegg.com - XCLIO Godspeed Two Advanced Fully Black Finish 0.5 mm SECC / ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Bigger internal fan? The case has 2 HUGE 180mm side fans and 2 80mm top fans. Combined with the fans from your video card, power supply, and CPU fan, you will have good airflow.

As steamwhistle said, one tube. You will be able to use the same tube on several processors. You apply very little paste.

Okay cool. The only thing holding me back is that now I have to get a Power supply since I realized this case doesn't come with one. Oh well. Had to give up the included PSU for more airflow. Suits me just fine. Away I go for PSU's!

Yea, it doesnt come with a PSU. I have a relatively new, lightly used 500W in my closet if you wanna buy it.

If not, the power supply I have in my computer is a Rosewill 600W. Great, cheap PSU, and one of the most quality "feeling" things I've held in my hand in a while.

Rosewill products are usually hit-or-miss when it comes to quality, but if you can find a cheap Rosewill PSU with good ratings I would suggest buying it.

Hit-or-miss...
Rosewill PSU-Rocks
Rosewill VIA SATA card for flashing 360s-Rocks
Rosewill HDMI Switch-Fucking terrible

Alright! I just placed my order and I decided on getting this PSU:
Newegg.com - Rosewill Green Series RG430-2 430W Continuous @40°C, 80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.3 & EPS12V v2.91,Active PFC "Compatible with Core i7" Power Supply - Power Supplies

Cause it had a sufficient amount of wattage and it had a promo code.

Price altogether?:

$464.37 and that includes the $4 shipping, that I managed to get it down to with the promo codes.

However, the RAM comes with a $25 MIR so it's gonna cost even less altogether when I get that check.

Also, used Bing Cashback which was at 2% so I'll be getting at least a couple bucks back from that.

Yay! Order placed! The case is shipping from California and everything else is shipping from New Jersey.
