I am curious what OS the most people use here.

I recently switches from Windows XP to Ubuntu Linux, and have loved every minute of it. I was planning on dual booting, having windows XP and Ubuntu, but I just love Ubuntu too much to go back to Windows.

I tripleboot two distros of Linux (Ubuntu Studio and ReactOS ) along with Windows XP Professional.

Definitely download ReactOS, it runs with the Windows Kernel!

formated, installed XP

dual boot ubuntu + xp

i want to get debian, but dont wanna redo all my shit

have vista home premium on mine. Tried a live cd of Ubuntu, wouldn't boot right, had to boot it in safe mode. Couldn't get knoppix to boot either. If I didn't have so much stuff on my computer, I'd go back to xp pro.

Any particular reason you want debian? I am sort of new to the Linux scene and was told Ubuntu was the best, and I loved the community around it. I just don't know much about the other types of Linux.

actually from what I know ReactOS has been in development since like 95 and it was designed to be a from the ground up GPL'd OS, which is completely compatible with all versions of Windows through NT but it doesn't use the windows kernel (as that is closed source, not free, and protected by patents). They basically created their own kernel from scratch, and using code from wine and their own code, created the API to run exes. The OS has no affiliation with microsoft whatsoever...

Just curious how well does ReactOS actually run, as last time I tried it, it wouldn't run outside of a VM...

Also I currently am typing this on PCLinuxOS but I will be formatting soon and going back to Sidux (Kde version of Debian Sid with its own set of custom scripts and a more up to date kernel).

Anyone wanting to try Linux that had problems with Ubuntu, try PCLinuxOS as it has better hardware detection, is more stable, and is an overall better distro than Ubuntu (IMO)
