Default Does anyone know how to hook up this subwoofer to a home audio system?

I'm trying to turn my room into a home entertainment system. So, the latest thing I did was go upstairs in my closet and found some old 5.1 stereo equipment that my dad no longer uses (my mom was going to give them away ) so I decided to put them in my room.

So far I only put the left/right and center speakers because I ran out of speaker wire, but I need to know how to hook up this bass.

On the back the only inputs are to either hook up speaker wire, and there are red/white connecters like for the audio on a composite video thing.

But, I don't know where to hook this up as the back of my audio system has ajust a black input.

Do I need a R/W --> RCA adapter? Or are those inputs for something different?

My sub has speaker wire hookups. I first pick left or right and then run the wire from whichever (L or R) directly from the stereo to the sub. Then it is output from the sub to the corresponding speaker.

Yeah, I have those too. I'm out of speaker wire though and I assumed that there was a second way to do it

Mmm... wait, just a theory. My speaker wire is really long because it used to be in a huge room now it's in my bedroom. I could just strip a piece in half and use both of them, couldn't I?

Yeah, the best thing would be to go out and spend a couple bucks. If they're good speakers, get good wire. Also, make sure that u position all the speakers correctly in ur room for the best possible dynamics and sound.

They aren't really top of the line or anything. Probably were several years back but my dad's twice replaced them and had them hidden upstairs.

Now, I got a question. In the back of the subs is a power on/off switch. Is it bad to just leave it on for a long period of time? It's too much of a hassle to go under my desk and switch it off every time I'm done.

U could leave it on, but the electricity flowing to it is called "trickle power," which over time adds up and can add unnecessary cost to ur parents electric bill. In other words they aren't happy. In turn, neither will you be. It's fine if u leave it on, but to be on the safe side turn it off. If it's too much of a hassle to get to it, move ur sub. Hope that helps
BTW, what is ur sound system? I wanna check it out online (bored as heck).

that's a pretty nice receiver. Pioneer is a good name; they make great receivers for the car. Audiosource sells a lot of in wall speakers, which would be kwl 2 have, but I'm guessing u have regular speakers.

Better then my speakers... none lol
