I turn it on, The black screen with the XP logo comes up and loads, The blue screen with the logo comes up with it saying "Windows is starting up" At that point everything is good, but after about a min, the thing freezes on my. Dont know why, but hope its a easy fix. Any help would be great. |

Reputation: 9 ![]() | start with my suggestion and we'll work from there, no reason to jump the gun and do a repair although bounty has the right idea. If you can boot into safemode..have you recently installed or updated any drivers or programs? |

Reputation: 9 ![]() | doing a repair install won't erase your files. It just repairs the windows directory. Go ahead and try a repair install then if safemode still freezes. After a repair you will have to updates windows again. Put the XP CD in..follow the prompts...when detecting a drive to install windows XP it should prompt you saying it found a partition with windows already installed. Select that drive and press the key to do a repair install...DO NOT FORMAT OR DELETE THE PARTION ON THE DRIVE! Doing so will erase all your data. I'v worked a support job for a little over a year and now I do software deployment for my college. Been playing with computer hardware for 6 years or so now. If anyone needs anything just ask. |

Reputation: 5 ![]() | Damn. Alright, i dont have a original XP disc, but i did have a burnt one, so i used that. I was doing everything right, when it asked me for the administrators password. And i have no idea what that is. So i guess i'm going to need to reinstall everything. Unless i was doing something wrong. Is there any way to do this without the password? |

Reputation: 4 ![]() | fuck, u never heard of it http://www.grc.com/intro.htm I've seen this problem, formating is not going to work nor is check disc. This program goes deep into the file system and corrects any problems. For others giving their solution, don't push others off you will find a copy on http://www.warez-bb.org repair install quoted by chickenselects has little effect on repairing for the password, get your self a copy of a linux distribution, using a live cd boot wait until it loads and browse to this c:\windows\system32\config\sam and using a usb, copy it over, take the file to a library or a friends house and run lc5 using the sam file, depending on the password, easy or hard, it can take a short while or a long while. If you password is dog or your name it will take seconds or if you want to do it the hard way below http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=s...localsamcrack2 I used to use this process to get .sam which I think is more easier than the ImMoRtaL way. LC5 does not exist on any website torrent, p2p. I think i have the only copy left Last edited by Dj Chang; 02-21-2008 at 02:30 PM.. |

Reputation: 9 ![]() | This could be a hardware problem too. Is your PC (CPU, memory, videocard) overclocked at all? If so, it may be done too agressively. Do you have more than 1 RAM module installed? Remove one then power on. If it still freezes, shutdown, swap for the other module, power on. You could also try booting with a linux LiveCD to further determine if it is hardware-related. If you can get to the desktop, chances are your hardware is fine. |
