Default Determinig the speed.type of your RAM

Anyone know how you can do this?

I have a Gateway MX6429 lapop that I acquired
It has 512mb RAM builtin, yet I do not know what type and speed it is
As I would like to upgradeit

I tried looking on gateway's site and no luck the model isnt listed, jsut skips right past??

Try Motherboard option and check on chipset

thanks to you also, now i not I can use 400mhz ram not the 333mhz
it says DDR SDRAM? so could I use DIMM?

DDR is backwards compatible. If I were you I'd just get 400 (PC3200) to be on the safe side.

No i don't think you can use DIMM becuz it's mostly for desktop computer due to the bigger size. What you should buy is SO-DIMM, it's smaller so most of the laptops use it.

Double check on the same page for supported types and FSB speed, that will help you choose the right one.

laptops only use SO-DIMM for the reason stated above by romantic. Period.
