Okay so I know absolutely nothing about xboxs because I'm more of a Playstation person. Though I'm thinking of buying a xbox 360.

The question is...can I buy a xbox 360 arcade and seperately buy a flashed harddrive? Would they both work together?

I wouldn't mind buying a 20gb or 60gb but I want my xbox modded...

The hard drive is not modded. The DVD drive is, right now the new xbox 360's contain a new lite-on drive which was unmoddable a few weeks ago, a mod just barely surfaced, but it requires soldering and switching the drive with another(its called spoofing), so you have to get rid of the lite-on and buy another drive from somewhere online, this also makes the xbox 360 unable to play on xbox live, unless you want to be banned within the hour.

In order to pair a Flashed DVD with a arcade mobo you need the drive key.

You have to obtain the drive key from your new drive, by soldering on some connector, I don't know the specifics, but I know it's not noob friendly and/or fully developed yet, once you obtain the drive key, you must then reflash the older drive that you bought, then flash it with your drive key, which microsoft can very likely detect, and therefore ban you. What I would do is look around on ebay for an older, mid 07' system then just mod it.
My Xbox was manufactured in June 2007 and it came with a BenQ drive which is modded.

Yep, TSOP flashing. I've modded many an xbox, but I'm not going to attempt taking drive keys off TSOP chips.

You might get lucky. Someone was offering to mod xbox's on here a while ago. They just ask that you pay both ways for shipping. I'm sure sending a few extra bucks would be appreciated too.

Yeah, phonzie was the one with the 360 modding service. If I were gonna let someone mod my 360, that's the way I'd go cause that's a great deal. Here's the thread:

i know phonz personally, and we're in college now so he just about can't do it anymore cause he's three hours away from where he lives. He does an amazing job modding though.

Plus it's been said that if you buy a new one it's too difficult for most people to do. I'm pretty sure he'd have no idea how to do all that too, but i can talk to him if you get a benq drive about modding it. idk how much he checks the site anymore

flashing the 360's really easy
Don't waste money paying someone to do it, it takes 10 minutes at most to flash the drive, unless you get a lite-on, then there's some more things involved in it.
But if you get anything other than a lite-on, just google for some guides, and you'll have np getting it modded.
