if i send in an Xbox 360 to Microsoft that I have opened and has been messed with, with no warranty sticker, what are the chances I get a fixed one back? Any methods for success?

No because even with a warranty sticker it doesn't guarantee it'll be repaired.

And I could get one free from a friend.

they can see the back where you pry it open has been tampered with, a sticker isn't everything.

I have had run into this same problem, I bought an RRoD xbox from a friend and didn't know that he had tried to open it and I planed on sending it in. When I sent it in I didn't do anything different and they sent me back a new one...(Although he says he didn't open it and there weren't any "pry marks" on the back, I think he just was going to try to open it and then realized it wasn't as easy as he thought.) So I think you might be ok, whats the worst that can happen... they send it back and you can try again. I have heard that the workers who fix the xboxes get paid per xbox they fix so they don't care if it was open or not, but there is no guaranty that they will.

well send it in if u already have the xbox and if its ruined already and the onyl chance to use it again si to send it it even if u have a "chance" that theyll repair it

When i sent in my modded xbox they still fixed it and it had no warranty sticker on it.
They did remove my modded drive though.
