Reputation: 17 ![]() | I'm going to purchase a new laptop most likely in September. I currently have a $1,500 budget, and ! was wondering if you guys could help me find the best laptop for my needs. I will be using it for mainly for video editing, photoshop, school work, and running bots. I do not have a preference between mac/pc, and will consider both platforms. It would be nice to have a good enough graphics card to run a game if I wanted to. Thanks for any input, will +rep if you help me. |

| The CL tiger | The xps line is good but for a nice cheap laptop for video related use i would have to agree with Mr hatter but alot of the asus laptops dont come with a powerfull video card unless u wanna shill out a few hundred bucks more. some of the old 7900 gtx video cards can outpower some of the new model video cards...just somethin to keep in mind.

Macbooks only have integrated video cards, while macbook pros have dedicated.... most games require dedicated. Macbooks start at $999 and Pros start at $1799 (with the education discount) and with their Back to School promo, you get a free ipod touch. The prices are high, considering the hardware, but they are much more stable than windows. I've had a mac for a year, and it's still as snappy as day 1. Can't say that for windows. It all depends on priorities. | |

Reputation: 72 ![]() | There is a good market for refurbished units, which most the time are just units that got shipped back with nothing really wrong with them. You can get good value and the same warranty. My email unit is over 3 years old and was a refurb at the time. I spend 1.8k on a top shelf Dell unit, at the time.

Reputation: 10 ![]() | I would recommend getting an XPS. They might be a little on the expensive side but believe me you will be glad you did. I recommend NOT getting an HP laptop, they're customer service is terrible and they have random amount of delays when they ship products. IBM is also good, but getting a Dell is even better ! What I recommend you do is speak to some of your friends who have a laptop that have the same requirements as you, or speak to a professional at Electronic stores such as Best Buy. Good luck!
