This is my first contribution to the forum, hopefully it will help those who are interested.

the site im going to intro is 99designs.com , it is perfect for those who are interested in designing whether a website or logos.. and you get paid pretty
generously if your design is being picked up.

price varies for logos and websites.. it normally range between 250+USD to 2k+USD
for a design, yes 1 design.. unless otherwise stated.

proof? 1.5kUSD for 2 projects(both 1 page design..)

looks like a pretty cool site but i had alook at some of the logos and you have to be a real pro to make such good logos because i do abit of designing but mine not as good as theres.

you must be a good website designer for them prices they payed you.

but still..good site for pros to get some extra cash out of there main job...as xmas is coming up..

its a good learning ground too, i learn alot from there and definitely widens my thoughts on different designs and views

You posted it, how long did it take for them to actually recognize your design... then after that how long did it take for them to cash out to your paypal?

Those are pretty amazing payouts. Buying a Wacom and mastering Illustrator now.

On second thought, WOW that's a lot of very good entries.

It's pretty much a list of design contests where you can enter and try to win. Be warned, if you aren't good in photoshop, don't try because their entries are good. Thanks for this. I'll use it.

once the dateline is up, the holder will pick out a design(sometimes it may take few days or immediately depending if it is a personal project or a company, as they may take decision from higher management)

once its picked, you can upload your files(usually psd unless its logo they may require illustrator as well, but it will be stated in the brief) for them to check. once verified its correct file, they release the payment.

normally its pretty fast =)

Oh, so this is like a very hard contest... I mean like, you actually have to be very good at what you're doing?

Can you just post something you previously made? just so we can see what a winning design looks like, and what we're up against?

ok for those who are interested in this, i will give the following pointers hopefully it will help you out.


1. understand what your holder wants(be sure of the requirements like how many pages are required, design only or with codes etc)
2. get infos like reference link or examples of website that holder have in mind
3. look from different views(ie: holder view-meaning what the project is about, viewer/user's view-meaning what the viewer or user wish to get from it or the goal of the project)
4. design according to the above needs..(ie. if the project is about kids education game site, you would cater more space, graphics and not a ton of tiny words that would bored the kids to sleep)

1 of the common factors which i found out that many, including me have mistaken.. is that what is considered nice or great isnt necessary so to the others.. for the saying "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.."

take a look at the wining design, it is $600 for few page design.. i think the designs is much weaker compared to the rest of entries, jim have done a fairly great job but it is awarded to stanley instead..

there is no 100% correct answer to a design or who may win..
btw im not stanley.. lol

i guess i wont be posting my work as i do not wish to start another "bashing" session(look in "free avatar" thread) because each have its own views and opinions.. so be confident in what you do..

1 thing that you cant go wrong is the more you design the better you get..
if it didnt work out in the end, you already have a portfolio of works which you can use in future or keep track of.. or put it on sale to template website =)
