If you own a modded xbox or know of a friend with one and have yet to login you may be in for a suprise.

As of yesterday, a big majority of consoles got banned. If you haven't been banned yet your not in the clear yet. From what has been gathered Microsoft in some way is checking your DVD Firmware! One thought is in the way that cracked firmware works.

The way cracked firmware works to bypass having to have a XBOXDVD in to play a game is the authentication it does. For a normal drive this works by the DVD Firmware asking the disc a question to see if it's a XBOXDVD. The DVD responds with a answer and if it's right then the Firmware loads it as a game. Well with the hacked firmware the DVD Firmware is doing all the asking and answering itself, so it never asks the disc for the answer so any game with a proper security sector will load....The thought is that possibly they found a way to ask the drive a question and expect no answer and that the drive is possibly giving out a answer or in some way they are checking the authentication process.

There are a few more ideas out there but I'm not going to fill a page with them.

Another thing with these console bans(they are NOT profile bans) is that a idiot from Microsoft made a interesting statment over the phone......

"If you have a HDD inside a banned console when it is getting banned if you hook that HDD up to another console it will get banned also"

There's two theories to this either (A)She's stupid and is trying to sucker the customer into buying another HDD or something, and probably has no clue what she's talking about;(B)As your console get's banned it's not a instant process your account will try and login to live, and at which point it kinda hangs. There is some speculation that at this time XBL is actually either doing 1 of 2 things:Getting your HDD key number or They are uploading a file that they can check for later.

As of right now not much else is known but lots of modders are currently banned, Also note that it DOES NOT matter if you have played a burnt game or not. If the firmware is modded there finding a way to find them.

it's because of all the mw2 users playing the game ahead of time

Also, make sure to get your games from private torrent sites. Those public torrent sites are junk and MS might be uploading some files that can be easily detected.

No, You arn't understanding; No matter if all your games are REAL from the store games and you have a flashed dvd drive...YOU WILL GET BANNED!

This isn't because of games or anything, this is because they have found a way to accurately check firmware and see if it's legit or not.

You could flash and never have played a game on your box and you will get banned. The ONLY WAY around it right NOW, is to flash to the original firmware till a updated firmware comes out and more is found out about how the firmware is being detected

Err, the hacked firmware simply allows an xbox game to be read off any brand DL media, not just the pressed MS retail discs. I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about

Ones banning has already happened, not logging in will not prevent you from getting banned ;o. Still not sure where you're getting these speculations from either.

Also, It's been kinda blownt out of proportion I think, a lot of people have gotten banned, but then again, a lot haven't. The only people posting regarding the subject is mostly those that got banned as they're trying to figure out WTF happened. There's still lots of modded 360 owners out there that have no idea that a ban wave has just occured/in-process.

I think it actually has something to do with the discs, Right now the only people I personally know that have been banned are either MW2 or Borderlands players. My guess is that it's some checks they've put into these newer games.

I personally have not been banned, and I've actively been playing LIVE almost every other day for the past 3 years. I haven't burned any new new games yet, only ODST, and that's the most recent.

Eitherway, don't be stupid and play MW2 yet, I'd wait and see what happens post-launch. Right now, everyone I know that has tried it on LIVE has been banned... lol.

im gonna trade in my banned console for another one at GS i just need to figure out what to say. Im gonna delete all my saved data from the past month off my HDD and recover all the Accounts before i play on my new 360.

Me and Granny have Lite Ons and we haven't been banned. Our friends have Samsung's and BenQ's and they have been banned.

I'm on a Benq 1.6 for reference, the bannings have been really spuradic afaik. I've looked over the thread on X-S which is already 100+ pages, and there is no real pattern to the bannings.

There's nothing you can do at this point, either you get banned or you don't.

im gonna trade my 360 in at the Gamestop in the mall and buy a new one at the one near my house. Hopefully using the same HDD again wont ban the new xbox.

Hooray, like you're saved? You can still play offline if you're console gets banned lol, so you'd still be in the same position you are now.

There was some post I read where someone flashed a new xbox, popped his first game in and got banned.

yea since the log is saved to your 360 the first time you log on M$ will have and will ban you instantly or with a day.

I don't see why hooking a HDD from a banned console to a new console would do anything. Sounds like a crock of shit to me.

If I get banned, which I don't think I will, I will just go to Walmart and buy an arcade model and do a gut swap.

Its not from playing the new games, ive only played 4 backup games so far, naruto the broken bond, dead or alive 4, ODST (4days after it was released), ODST disk 2(again 6 days after it was released). now tht my console is ban im playin MW2 early tho

They are also banning if you have unlocked achievements by cheating or hacking. My 360 isn't hacked and I haven't cheated to get my achievements so I'm safe.

The only effect a ban has on your hdd is that you can no longer use the install game to hard drive feature.. This, of course, pisses a lot of people off because it makes their 360 louder
