I got a xbox 360 (60 GB) the new ones, and im wondering if i should get a cooling fan for it, i heard they do more damage then fix it. And which way is better to put the console vertical or horizontal.

I have mine horizontally with 2 game cases under it for better ventilation. However I do not know anything about any coolers.

You don't need a cooling fan. Dont get one. Just dont put it on the carpet or anything dumb like that, and horizontal is best.

why is horizontal the best? more of the surface area is on the ground so it would heat up faster. And the rest are "if i go there will be double." duh

because u get proper ventalation for both side standing it upright will block off ventalation from one side of the console..

as for the cooling fans add on no you won't need one anymore since all consoles are falcons not meaning that it's 65nm/95nm chip set instead of the old 95/95 plus the heat sinks have been redesigned for more proper cooling

It is also better for your games if the console is horizontal. Studies have shown more disc scratching on vertical orientations.

Keep the Console Horizontal on the Floor on Top of the Box the 360 Came in, that way you don't lose track of your stuff, and it's ventilated from 5 sides

I have my 360 like this and have never had any issues (sorry for the dark picture). Also as previously stated none of the new consoles should get RROD as they were all updated to correct the problem that caused the error
