I moved one of the old computers to my room, and now it wont connect to the internet... It complains of not having its own address... My laptop gets internet from those ports, but this computer will not connect fully ( It says little to no connectivity, and shows me my network details, but wont bother to connect to the internet... I can't figure out what to do... P.S. it is running through about 100-125 ft of ethernet cable between the router and the port... If that makes a difference. It says it is not assigned a network address, and when i click repair, it says it was not able to renew the IP address.

The only thing i could think of is that the router is holding the ip address assigned to that computer (via mac address.) and causing an error when trying to connect again. I doubt that's it because it rarely happens. Usually when you disconnect from a router and reconnect it assigns you a new local ip. ex: 192.168.2.x or of something similar. Have you tried having everything connected already, (desktop plugged into your room port, the one you want it in.) and rest everything. Pull the plug on the router and modem,(if it has a backup battery take that out as well.) plug the modem in first. Wait 30 seconds, or until all lights are done blinking. then plug in router. Turn on computer and you "should" be good. This is the best advise i can give you with out seeing it myself =] |
