Wuala - Your personal invitation - Secure Online Storage - Backup. Store. Share. Access Everywhere.
Wuala is based on a technology that reduces the servers' costs by harnessing idle resources. If a user wants to share part of his drive with the Wuala network, he receives additional online storage. The user's hard drives compose a grid network that is used by Wuala to improve download speed, file availability and to reduce the servers' costs.
When a user adds a file to Wuala it is encrypted and split into fragments. These fragments are uploaded to Wuala's servers and spread across the grid network. To improve availability, redundant fragments are generated (see Forward error correction), but even if the file can't be fully retrieved from the grid network the first upload to the servers guarantees that a file is never lost.
