Did you try cleaning the lens with a cleaning disc or some other method?

The laser or some other part could've gone bad internally, does it make any new strange noises that you didn't hear before?

perhaps poweriso tried to use the same drive letter and your actually cd drive. Or it caused a IRQ error, strange.
