  1. #1 N router
hey im running a wireless g network from my gateway modem, but I want to upgrade to an N router. Do I have to call comcast to have them take out my gateway and put in a normal modem so i can attach it to that. or can i just attach the router through one of the ports on the gateway?

I'm not sure but I think the a/b/g/n standard only applies to Wireless Routers, not the modem's themselves.

You can just hook up your new wireless N router right into one of those ports. The standards only apply to wireless, so connecting it to one of the ports is fine and you'll still have N speeds for your network.

Be sure to turn off the wireless G; I have seen some all-in-ones that have a switch on the back. It might be worth a call to Comcast and ask if you switch to a standard modem if it will lower your monthly bill at all.

Yes normally you can save $2-$3 a month by not having a wireless router from them, but instead a normal modem. Call up and ask to save your self/parents money, although you can do what you want with what you have.
