Default Wifi Card Died?

Suddenly I lose connection to my wifi network. When I look my wireless card's no where to be seen on windows. The on/off button for this wireless card now always says off. I'm not sure what other information to give aside from that the device doesn't show up anywhere.

I'm on a laptop. The problem is the device does not show up on the device manager at all.

I'm assuming a laptop based on what he said in his original post. I've seen this happen a lot in laptops, and the end result was having to send it back (since they are onboard) to have the mobo replaced

Some have interchangeable cards I thought...if your laptop isn't under warranty, you can pick up one of those USB wifi adapters.

After some cussing and restarting my computer about 50 times the wifi card was picked up and I installed the driver. I am worried though that it is defective. Should I still do a warenty claim. Looking into it I have until July 2nd, 2009 to do a claim if I need to.

That trips me out that you said it's an HP, I swear to you that EVERY wifi I've seen go defective (onboard) via laptop has been an HP. It was more or less the mobo needing replacement. I'd highly HIGHLY recommend you do that while you still have a warrenty.

In my experience, they got the laptop back within a relatively decent amount of time.

Goodluck with it bro.

Go on HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers and more and contact their live support. They will tell you if your laptop is included in their list with laptops that have this problem. They will send you a box at home so you can ship your laptop to them to fix it.Everything is free even if you dont have a warranty.

My card used to do that, your best bet is to call and get it fixed. Or slap your laptop a few times.

HP is great with good customer service, but apparently their Wifi cards aren't the best.

Out of curiosity, hook to regular LAN, and assign yourself some DNS info, then reboot the computer and check that DNS info. If it doesn't save any of that info at all (no specified information) this may be a sign you need to re-install/repair you're OS. I've seen symptoms like this before, and that was a 'sure fire test' in my opinion to see the level of certainty of hardware vs software on this type of problem.

Hope that helps.
