Default Tax form question.

How do you work out how much you can order before you have to fill out the tax form? I know it's $600 worth of stuff, but we have no idea what MS values each item at. I heard that you can order up to 60,000 points of stuff before you get the tax form. Meaning MS considers 100 points to be equal to $1. Is this right? Does anyone know how I can figure out how much stuff I can order before I get the tax form? Is it a point limit or a "MS value" limit that we don't know about?

Thanks for any advice.

keep ordering on an account until you get the message. If you don't get the message then you havent reached the 600 dollars yet.

my friend is 14 and has ordered stuff from bing since january of this year and has recieved all of his prizes that were ordered in his name. if he gets a w9 form, and his parents fill it out with their name, does his acct get banned because of the different names on the w9 and the ordered prizes?

I recently received the IRS notice on an account and Bing claimed that I couldn't get the new Halo 3 game, so the page offered up other prizes I could still order without completing a W9. All of the offered prizes were in the 1 - 2000 ticket range but didn't include all the prizes in that range from the Prize Mall.

Thus this could only mean that they base the total amount on a dollar value they give to each prize.

Most likely the names will need to match.

Your friend can submit a form in his name and as long as he doesn't make more money in that calendar year than the IRS standard deduction. That way he won't owe any taxes on the prizes he receives.

Submitting a W9 is not a good idea as you let Bing know exactly who you are.
