Explanation Of The Downtime
December 19th, 2009
Hey everyone. From about 10 PM last night to around 3 AM EST we blocked access to our website. During this time we were being attacked by a group of people from 4chan.org, after being encouraged to do so by the site administrator, a man who goes by the name of “moot”. The attackers were unable to gain access to our servers or databases, but did attempt to flood us. We ended up taking the server down on our own to add extra security and prevent any further attacks. We are now communicating with moot and will have more updates in the morning.

Some things to clear up:

1) The attacks themselves hardly affected the server. We ourselves took the server down as a precaution to prevent any possible damage.

2) There were many attempts to gain access to a login script, all of which were logged and will most likely be publicized and reported.

3) In an attempt to slander our name members of 4chan have claimed that we promote the spread of child pornography. This could not be further from the truth. Most users here know that it is strictly against the rules, and if you are caught promoting it your files will deleted and you will be permanently banned. We have no tolerance for such content here. Also, it is important that those who spot these type of files report them on the Report a File page immediately.

4)While many say moot did not endorse this attack, it is quite obvious from his comments that he did. Some of the phrases he used:

“Spam is destroying 4chan. It’s either we go, or they do.”

“The script is great, but we need to fix the problem at its source.”

“There are six and a half million of you, and only so many of them. I can’t believe we’re losing this battle.”

We have contacted him, however, and will discuss this matter with him personally.

5)It is required that all users stop promoting links on 4chan. More updates will come in the morning.

Hmm.. I don't see how that would be the fault of sharecash themselves, rather just the dumbasses who think they can make a quick buck by spamming sharecash links

Kind of. It is an image-board technically. Think of it as an internet gang (obviously mostly nerds) and you can be on its good side or bad side. They talk about everything and if you piss them off it sucks. This is one example. I heard of one instance where they found a video of a kid abusing his cat on you-tube (he had just posted it). Within an hour, they had contacted the authorities in his town. They are pretty tough and aren't a gang u wanna mess with by any means, no matter how nerdy or geeky they may be.
