I mean basically, are they so over-saturated that there's really no money left in the business unless you're an already big name? I'm fairly decent at designing websites and would like to make some money. The only thing I'm scared of is the initial investment. (domain name, GPT script from a site like simpleGPT, advertising, etc.)

There is plenty of money to be made in GPT sites, as long as you are innovative. Don't try to make the same site that everyone has been members of before. Make something original, with a nice design, and unique offers, and the money will roll in like tumbleweeds in the wild west.

no domain bout $6
Script $20/m or $120-$170 up front just depends what script you want
advertising you can pay people not sure how much people charge but I can help you with that.
Also you will need money to cover at least the 1st month of payouts
Most gpt owners have at least $2000 to start their site.
Hosting $2-$8

I wouldn't start off a site if I were you.

I know a little about making GPTs, and from what I hear, there are too many of them to make good money anymore. PTC's are a complete waste of time.

If you do make a site, PLEASE do it professionally. Too many people rush into it thinking "I'll invest $100 and be rich!"
They fail to realize that to get any income from the site it needs:
  • To look professional
  • To use a catchy, but not stupid fairy-tale name (like Dragon's Treasure)
  • To have professional hosting
  • To have daily payments, games, and contests

Obviously, you can't use just any script. "Shiftcode" would be the best, but it costs $180. Most importantly, the site would need to offer something unique, something that other sites don't have.

To have a good site, be prepared to spend $1,500, or so.
Remember that you will have to pay for:
  • A domain
  • Hosting
  • The script
  • A website designer
Not to mention to keep a couple hundred in your PayPal so you can start giving out payments right away.

Running a site takes a lot of work, especially if you've never done it before.

I know all this because I was recently considering investing in a GPT site, and I know someone who owns three (they are all well put together sites). I asked him about it and, in a nutshell, that's what he told me.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I'm just preparing you for what you're going to need to do.
(I copied the above from a previous post about a couple days ago that I made)

Kind of, but no.

Yeah, your friend is just really lucky. Let me see his sites...

Domains are usually around $10 per year. If you do GPT, buy Shiftcode, which is $180. Lol...$120-$170, really? Don't ask the guy for a job, he doesn't even have a site, lmao. What experience do you have, seriously? Buy hosting from Hostgator, which is about $8 per month. The only thing I agree with you on is to have about $2000 before you start a site, and to keep a lot in your PayPal for the first month couple months.

If you still buy domains at $10, u fail. then u flip out on him cuz hes $10 off one of the more expensive scripts, Shiftcode. Hostgator is decent, but there are plenty of other hosting companies that can sell for less.

Oh my God!!! I'm so fucking offended and scared. Not really... by the way, I didn't "flip out." At least I didn't -rep him. Even though I could care less... it's -rep from a n00b. You aren't even worth the time required to move my mouse over and take away like three fifths of your measly rep, so I don't know why I'm even replying. You have no trust, have been here for like two weeks, and are a typical n00b. Period.

Does anyone know any other ways to cash in from building my own website? Obviously I'm not the most innovative entrepreneur, so responses like "be creative and come up with something new" will be taken lightly. Obviously this isn't the greatest mind set but I need something that will work with enough dedication.
