Reputation: 86 ![]() cBay Rating: | Any tips? Going to be a stock boy or cashier in a popular store in this area for grocery shopping. I need help with how to relax, and how to get the best impression I can get. I also need to know what I should be ready to answer, and how to answer. I'm already coming in dressed with black pants, and a buttoned up shirt. Any other help as I can get, let me know. Give me links if you could. Thanks guys! |

| Senior Member | Firstly, I'll confirm that appearance does matter. I mean sure, it's just a retail job but it'll still help. As Bourkey say, walk in and before you sit give a confident hand shake. Any questions they ask you, don't splirt out the first thing that comes to mind, make it look like you give it a bit of thought (which you should do) and answer as intellibly as possible. It's a major shortcoming of alot of people that thing it's a race to answer what they ask as fast as possible. A good answer will trump a fast response any day. Just consider when they ask you, what the question they are asking is exactly? how can you answer it in the straightest and simplest manner? and if a humourous response is appropriate.... Also make sure you have a copy of your CV (Resume) with you, well typed and neatly presented with as many RELEVANT references as you can.

| Senior Member | To be honest, I've had about 6 jobs in my life so far, and I have only had to attend an interview for 1! To that interview, I rocked up in my school uniform, my hair curly and in front of my eyes and no CV or Resume. They didn't care, as I still showed the charisma, skills and enthusiasm for the job, and they noted how appearance can be improved, however work ethic and skills take time and cost money to improve. |

Don't try to be perfect, they'll know you're fake. Everything else is common sense. Other than that good luck. |

Reputation: 6 ![]() cBay Rating: | One thing that I learn at all interviews: IT'S OKAY NOT TO KNOW. If you ever say, "I don't know" then follow up with a "but I would like to learn from someone if I could." Like all others said, hand shake must be confident and firm but not bone shattering. Do not do what Bourkster said about initializing humor. What you want to do at first is read the interviewer, get an impression of how they sound and what their personality might be. If you notice that it's humorous, throw in a couple of jokes or two. If they're serious, be serious. All in all, act yourself and do your best. |
