Reputation: 11 ![]() | I know they read all posts here, so here's just a short question type letter: What's wrong with botting? I believe that you get income from advertisements. When people bot, no ads get clicked, so no money is recovered from the loss of having to send out a prize? I assume that's it, but is it anything else? If a bot does the exact same thing a normal human would do on BT, then I don't see a problem with it. Using a program that exploits the site or performs tasks that humans are not capable of doing, yes, that's wrong. But if I go to CN daily and post, then write a program to copy my actions while I'm out of town, so what? I've never botted BT. I have legitimate business enterprises that can make me far more than a $50 Target Gift Card, so why bother? But a lot of people care about it. Why not reach an agreement with botters? You can bot at a reasonable pace with one account, as long as you go on manually and check out any interesting adverts. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Any member of BT staff can hop on a proxy, make an account, and reply. Normal people can reply, too! *Some sort of employee ID or something would be great for a little bit of proof ALTERNATIVE TO POSTING: BT Staff may email me at justforyoubtstaff@gmail.com with the subject: BT Staff - Response to Open Letter CN MEMBERS: Feel free to send the thread link to customer support.

| CN's Only Moderator | Just my 2 cents. Botting is cheating, we are even called cheating network. I believe it is ok for them to ban us as it is not humans doing it it is automated. This does in a sense take away from the humans who go legitly and have to spend their time while we put no effort whatsoever into getting our prizes. |

I'm talking about a program that performs a human's actions, not outperforms. Day 1: I rate 100 jokes on BT in 1 hour Day 2: I make a program to rate 100 jokes on BT in 1 hour What's the big deal? RuneScape- UNFAIR: Day 1: I mine gold for 6 hours Day 2: I run a bot for the entire day that mines gold, something I would not be able to humanly do without rest QUESTIONABLE: Day 1: I mine gold for 6 hours Day 2: I run a bot that mines gold for 6 hours If a program does the EXACT SAME thing that I would be doing anyway, why does it matter? As weird as it seems, I'm not trying to justify botting, but I want to know what BT thinks about this.

And the OP kinda answered his own question; People using bots are not spending that time personally on the site clicking advertisements and generating revenue. All their money comes from advertisements, so people who play legit are actually paying for the gift with their time using the site. BT is designed to make a profit from legitimate users with advertisements, even after you subtract the cost of the prizes. The site looses twice with bots (first they don't get the revenue from advertisements and second they are sending the botter a free prize). Oh, and if you make a bot that rates videos, it's not a real rating is it. It's not an actual opinion of what a real person thinks of the video. Why would BT want to allow a bot that skews the results of their video rating system? |
